Ponnam, MPs Forum convener

Telangana Congress MPs had a taste of Pranab Mukherjee’s wrath. The veteran party leader was livid with T Congress MPs for disrupting Lok Sabha once too many times today. While the MPs were at the receiving end at Pranab’s ire, what added insult to injury was the fact that this embarrassing bit of info was leaked to the press by one among them.

The MPs called for a hurried press conference later to clarify that though Pranab was angry with them for stalling the House, they too gave him a piece of their mind. They claimed that they had told the powerful Cabinet Minister in the UPA that they – the MPs – would continue to ‘protest’ to demand a decision on Telangana.

The fact of the matter is, according to those on the Delhi beat, that the MPs had to take the verbal assault of Pranab without a murmur. A couple of them tried to make mild protests saying that they could not sit silently when KCR and Vijaya Shanti were rushing towards the Speaker’s podium.

“Unless we also are seen to be doing something for the cause of Telangana, we cannot survive politically,” they were learnt to have explained to Pranab, who nevertheless told them to behave in the House.

Meanwhile, cut up with press reports about their humiliation, the T MPs apparently were flustered with the media. Another interesting titbit is that Madhu Yashki, who was not too happy with the way Manda Jagannadham and Vivekananda were dealing with the issue, absented himself from the press conference.
