Congress Party has stunned by its selection of journalist-turned-Congress leader Rapolu Anand Bhaskar for Rajya Sabha nomination. There was lot of internal churning over the fourth candidate from Andhra Pradesh, and the high command wanted to send a non-AP leader to Rajya Sabha.
However, the state Congress leaders led by Botsa Satyanarayana were successful in bringing pressure on the party high command over the need to pick up the fourth candidate also from the state.
Rapolu Anand Bhaskar is a BC, belonging to the Padmshali community and hails from Telangana. He organizes training classes for Congress Party.
By choosing three candidates – Renuka, Palvai and Rapolu – from Telangana, the party seems to have conveyed the message that it attaches lot of importance to the region at this juncture.
The efforts by Shabbir Ali, Suresh Reddy and T Venktrami Reddy till the last minute did not yield any results with the Delhi leadership which tried to balance the caste equations.
