Sharada, leading heroine of yester years known for her histrionics, is not to be seen much in Telugu films. But she continues to play major roles in Malayalam films, where she carved a niche for herself over the years.
Her latest film is Nayika, which hit theatres in Kerala on November 11. The film was earlier described as a biopic on the life of Sharada, which later turned out to be false.
The film indeed is about a film actress, and Sharada plays a pivotal role in the film. Sharada herself was upset at the reports and clarified that the film was about a Christian actress Gracy, who makes a brief journey into films and then vanishes into aloofness.
Directed by Jeyaraj, the film has Padmapriya and Mamta Mohandas in important roles. Both Padmapriya (Chandra Sidharth’s Andari Bandhuvaya) and Mamta have acted in Telugu films.
Sharada, who was a leading actress in all South Indian languages, made a mark in Malayalam films and even won several national and Kerala state awards.
While her talent is not being used by Telugu film industry, Sharada continues to be cast in Malayalam films. She is currently acting a new Malayalam flick Reji Nair’s Kalikaalam.
In an interview, Sharada expressed dislike at the kind of films being made in Telugu.
