While some people would have certainly taken their lives due to frustration caused by Telangana issue, there have also been suspicions that some interested parties projected several deaths due to various reasons as being suicides for the cause of separate state.
A report published in The Hindu with Mahabubnagar dateline in Saturday’s edition talks about such an instance where an accidental death was sought to be presented as a suicide for Telangana.
The family, though poor and uneducated, rejected the false claims of some of the persons in this regard and gave a statement to the police that the death was an accident due to electrocution in the field.
While feeling sorry for the loss of a boy to the vagaries of agricultural power, one cannot but commend the bravery of the family who stood by truth rather than submit to forced martyrdom.
Here is The Hindu report:
Family members of an Intermediate second year student thwarted an attempt by a section of the villagers to project the student’s accidental death due to electrocution as suicide for separate Telangana, at Venkatapur village of Pebbair mandal in the district on Thursday.
According to Pebbair Sub-Inspector Saidaiah, Bhanu Prasad, an Intermediate II year student (MPC) of C.V. Raman Junior College at Wanaparthy town, came to his village Venkatapur recently after holidays were declared. His family raised crops on their piece of land under the Jurala left canal. On Thursday morning Bhanu Prasad went to his fields and got electrocuted when he tried to switch on the electrical motor.
His family members immediately took him to Pebbair hospital where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’. In the meantime, some villagers brought a letter ‘written’ by the victim stating that he was ending his life dejected over the delay in formation of separate Telangana. However, the student’s parents and family members dismissed the version and told the Pebbair police that their son was electrocuted accidentally when he tried to switch on the motor.
The police also verified the handwriting in the letter with his notebooks and found that it not tally, proving that the letter was bogus. The Pebbair police registered a case under section 174 (accidental death) and autopsy was conducted at Wanaparthy area hospital.
