Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu gave a fitting reply to opposition onslaught against the alleged circular of the Centre to run schools on Christmas Day. Naidu said in Lok Sabha that it was nobody’s fault that the former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on this holy day. It is not uncommon to conduct essay competitions and other contest for students on Gandhi Jayanthi and on other such occasions in schools across the country, he said.
Venkaiah Naidu told Lok Sabha that the circular only said that an essay competition may be held for students on good governance on the occasion of Vajpayee’s birthday, but without disturbing the holiday for schools. “Many in the country will celebrate Christmas on December 25, some of us might go to a church on that day, and some will commemorate Vajpayee’s birthday also. There is nothing more to this,” Venkaiah said.
