The Gudivada municipal council meeting on Sunday looked like a war zone. YSR Congress Party members led by Kodali Nani tried to throw shoe at chairman Yalavarthi Srinivasa Rao, who recently switched sides.
Yalavarthi was elected on YSR Congress Party ticket, but now deserted the party to join the ruling TDP. This angered the YSR CP members, who tried to prevent the chairman from entering the meeting hall.
Even as a co-option member of YSR CP Choragudi Ravikanth tried to hit Yalavarthi with a shoe, but a TDP member G Balaram averted it by pushing Choragudi. There was pandemonium all around with members of both the parties hurling abuses at one another. The police tried to intervene with little success.
Even as the chairman left the hall after announcing that all the items on agenda were approved, Kodali Nani challenged Yalavarthi to resign and get re-elected. Yalavarthi responded saying he was ready, if Nani too resigned and sought re-election as MLA.
