The Dream Girl of Indian cinema Hema Malini has been awarded the prestigious Akkineni Nageswara Rao Award for the year 2011 today. A host of celebrities including Nagarjuna and Akkineni family, T Subbirami Reddy were present on the occasion.

The ANR Award carries a memento, citation and a cash prize of Rs 4 lakh.

The ANR award was instituted in the year 2005 by the Akkineni International Foundation as an ‘Award for Excellence’ to those who dedicated their life “towards service to our medium” (the film industry).

Dev Anand was the first recipient of the ANR Award in 2005, followed by Shabana Azmi, Anjali Devi (popular Telugu actress), Vyjayanthimala Bali, Lata Mangeshkar and K Balachander (ace Tamil film director) respectively.

“Hema Malini is a worthy actress and dancer. Even at the age of 60 years, she is so active both in her acting and dancing careers,” ANR noted, adding that “she is a right choice” for the award.

The main attraction of the function is the presence of Nag’s  both sons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil. The latter looked like he is potential hero material. Check out the pics for yourself
