The Andhra Pradesh CID in March 2021 registered a First Information Report (FIR) against TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu under Indian Penal Code’s Sections 120 B (conspiracy) 166 (public servant disobeying the law), 167 (public servant framing incorrect document), and 217 (public servant disobeying law with intent to save a person from punishment or property from forfeiture). He was also booked under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act.
The FIR was registered on ruling YSR Congress Party lawmaker Alla Ramakrishna Reddy’s complaint. According to the FIR, farmers of Reddy’s Mangalagiri constituency in Amaravati told him that influential people in the previous Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government cheated them by taking away their land illegally. Farmers have alleged that some middlemen created insecurities stating the government might take away their assigned land without giving any compensation, it added.
Former Minister P Narayana, who was also named in the FIR, filed a quash petition in the court. Judgment is reserved.
Meanwhile, in October 2023, in the alleged Amaravati assigned lands scam case, the Andhra Pradesh State Crime Investigation Department (APCID) filed two petitions before the High Court for reopening hearing in the quash petitions in view of fresh evidence that they have reportedly received.
According to sources, one Ponguru Krishnapriya, sister-in-law of former municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) minister P Narayana, has voluntarily sent an audiovisual statement giving specific details on the manner in which Narayana, an accused in the case, illegally purchased the assigned lands from farmers of 29 capital region villages.
