Probably to avoid any legal tangles, the makers of Dirty Picture are no more promoting the film as biopic based on the life of yesteryear item girl Silk Smitha.
Silk Smitha’s brother Naga Vara Prasad’s case against the release of the film is pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Earlier, Prasad had sent legal notices to the producer of the film Ekta Kapoor, but there was no response.
Prasad has been claiming that the film demeaned Silk Smitha and the producers never bothered to take the family into confidence. The AP High Court adjourned the plea against the release of film to Monday.
The counsel representing the Centre informed the court that the CBFC had granted an ‘A’ certificate to the movie. Earlier the court had adjourned the matter for ascertaining the certification by the Censor Board.
Meanwhile, the publicity for the film, set for December 2 release, is no more talking about the film as the life of Silk Smitha, though all through it was projected as a story based on the late dancer’s eventful life.
Vidya Balan, who is playing Silk Simtha’s character, is now dismissing that the film was made on the life of the former sultry vamp.
“Yes, there was some inspiration for the story from the life of Smitha. But it is wrong to say that the film is based on her life. It is based on the life of dance girls of South film industry,” said Vidya Balan, who has been hogging the limelight these days for her bold portrayal in the film
This only means that the producers will now say that the film is not based on Silk Smitha’s life and thus escape from any liability. Ekta Kapoor will probably laugh all her way to the box office collections.
