Manchu Manoj latest release Mr Nookayya faced several hurdles on eve of release especially with its title. Reviews say the film could have been Manoj’s best with a little more effort. Meanwhile, Lakshmi Manchi, Manoj’s sister had this to say about the controversy: “Well, when we changed the title to Nookayya, they didn’t object or raise any hue and cry. But once the film released and got good reviews, they immediately objected and stopped the screening. They also want a share of publicity, I guess.”  MORE

The Hindu: A thriller that meanders

Mr. Nookayya could have been an engaging thriller had the makers not let the narrative meander. What you get is a loud, over-the-top flick. Yuvan Shankar Raja shows his merit in one song but this is clearly not among his best films. Watch it if you don’t mind taking the formulaic route to entertainment. MORE

The film meanders its way to the climax. The emphasis and concentration seemed to be on the action sequences; perhaps a similar attention to the storyline would have helped. The unnecessary graphics could also have been done away with.

Manoj Manchu tries his best to carry the film on his shoulders but can do so only up to a point. He proves his abilities in dancing (the Pista song) and action.  MORE 

One India: Loose screenplay

Manoj has given an excellent performance all through the film and he has taken the entire responsibility to work for the success of the film. He shot several risky shots in the action scenes as he himself choreographed the action scenes. The actor has shown lots of ease in songs too.  MORE
