Newly appointed TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal
Newly appointed TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal

Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan’s antagonism against North India seems to be turning a little weird. His latest tweet was against the appointment of Anil Kumar Singhal as Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).  A 1993 batch IAS officer, Singhal was earlier working as the Resident Commissioner, AP Bhavan in New Delhi.

Stating that he was not against North Indian officers taking charge of TTD, Pawan does exactly that questioning how Chief Minister ‘Chandrababu Naidu allowed it to happen’. For this action, the CM also ‘owed an explanation to the people and the South’.

‘They (Pawan means North Indians) would not allow any South Indian to take up’ responsibility for shrines such as Amaranath, Mathura etc., claims Pawan.

Pawan seems to have got it all wrong. He should be against the arrogant and ignorant political leadership of the north, not against the people or the officials. Indeed, many South Indians hold important positions in many north Indian states as part of All India Services.

Is Pawan saying that no North Indian officer should be given any important position in the administration? If a North Indian can be a district collector, what prevents him for discharging the same duties as TTD Executive Officer?

Pawan’s logic seems to be twisted and completely misplaced. AK Singhal chose to stick with AP, even though he was allotted to Telangana, and the CM was apparently happy with his work as Resident Commissioner, AP Bhavan, Delhi. On the day of his assuming duties, Singhal walked up all the way to Tirumala and had his darshan like any other devotee, shunning privileges. That was certainly a good beginning.
