The PCC has no role in selection of candidates for Rajya Sabha from the state, Botsa Satyanarayana made it clear. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, he said the Congress high command will take a decision and finalize the names soon.
Congress Party has enough strength in the Assembly to send 4 Members to Rajya Sabha, election for which is due next month.
Botsa said that he did not take any names in this regard as he is not authorized. “I did not talk about Chiranjeevi or Dasari Narayana Rao or anybody being selected or not selected for RS,” he clarified.
The PCC cannot propose any names but will only forward the applications received to the high command, he added.
Botsa also rejected suggestions that the CM and PCC chief not campaigning together for by-polls was an indication of the rift between the two. There was no precedent of such a thing happening in a national party like the Congress, he said.
The by-polls are not a referendum on the government’s performance because the number of seats going to elections is miniscule, Botsa pointed out.
