United Forum for RTI Campaign along with other like minded groups is staging a protest against the appointment of information commissioners.
The AP Government has recommended 8 people to the state information commission. The appointments include people who are actively associated with political parties and those who have never been in the RTI sphere.
These appointments are in clear violation of Sec 15(5) and Sec 15(6) of the RTI act. This protest is to tell the government that we do not agree with these appointments and also send an appeal to Governor, the appointing authority, not to approve these names and reject the same.
The United Forum is demanding the following:
1. Cancel the present appointments and take up fresh appointments.
2. The process of appointments should be transparent and there should be some laid down guidelines.
The state govt. may be recommended to frame rules for the procedure of selection and appointments as per
Section 28.1& Section 28.2.
3.The govt should invite applications and screen the applicants’ based on some parameters. This process should be transparent.
The protest is to be held on Saturday, the 11th February at 10:30 am at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park.
Former Union Home Secretary Padmanabaiah, Fomer Chief Secretary of AP K Madhava Rao, Former Rajyasabha MP Ramachandra Reddy will also be present.
