Celebrity astrologer Srinivasa Gargeya is in trouble. The most sought after astrologer in Hyderabad, whose appointment is very hard to get, is being targeted by some women’s organizations for ‘demeaning’ women in his new panchangam.
Jointly authored by Gargeya and Sri Rama Sarma, the panchangam (almanac), published recently, apparently talks about women of some ‘raasis’ as being sexually-driven.The panchangam also makes inappropriate comments against women’s mensuration. The character of a girl is related to the time of her first menstrual cycle, according Gargeya’s Graha Bhoomi.
The women’s organizations have on Monday approached the Human Rights Commission against the publication.
The HRC on Tuesday asked the Commissioner of Police to file a report on the issue by April 4.
The television-savvy Ponnaluri Srinivas Gargeya charges as much as Rs 8,000 for a five-year prediction of anybody’s future. His appointment is so hard to get that a police officer of DSP rank in Banjara Hills reportedly used his clout with news channels to secure his audience.
In several astrological websites, Gargeya is described as “a reputable international noted astrologer (who) hails from traditional Telugu Brahmin family, learned vedic astrology from childhood and having experience of nearly 4 decades, writing suryasiddanta PANCHANG (almanac) every year from 20 years”.
Gargeya also claims to the chief astrological adviser to Nara Chandrababu Naidu, former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and several other political and film personalities.
