Remember the treasure hunt at Vidyaranya School at the foothills of famous Naubat Pahad launched by the state archeology department a couple of months back? Nothing seems to have come out of this misadventure but for wasting government funds and causing inconvenience to school children for extended periods.
The price for this failed frenzy has been paid by the department director P Chenna Reddy, who has been unceremoniously shunted out from his coveted post. Minister for Tourism Vatti Vasanthkumar, who was miffed with Chenna Reddy for taking things a little too far despite his caution, refused to give the director extension. Chenna Reddy has now gone back to his parent job as professor in history department of Telugu University.
This despite the recommendations by six ministers to give Chenna Reddy further extension of another year. The overenthusiastic professor was initially given a period of two years in archeology department, but later got two extensions of one year each. No more extensions, the Minister apparently ordered.
A new director will be selected through an advertisement. Meanwhile, Tourism Commissioner Sabyasachi Ghosh was given temporary charge of the department..
