The Rayalaseema leaders are yet to come to terms with the post-bifurcation political scenario that deprived them of political power in both states. Anantapur MP JC Diwakar Reddy makes no bones about admitting the new reality. Like many of his colleagues in the region, Diwakar Reddy still feels that Anantapur and Kurnool would have had some political importance, if they were made part of Telangana state. That would have made a difference to Congress Party in Telangana too, he told Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader Jana Reddy in the Assembly lobby on Wednesday.
“Nobody bothered when we tried to annex these districts in the new Telangana,” he told Jana Reddy. It may be recalled leaders such APCC president Raghuveera Reddy and former central minister Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy made futile efforts to merge Anantapur and Kurnool in Telangana during the bifurcation process. Having lost power in both states, the Reddys are now left to play second fiddle in both the regions. At least in Telangana, Congress led by Reddys, is in opposition. “But you are not giving much fight to TRS,” Diwakar Reddy protested to Jana Reddy.
