The Centre has reacted to Mayawati’s plan for Uttar Pradesh division in a way very different from its response to bifurcation of AP. The Centre on Monday returned the Uttar Pradesh Assembly resolution for division of the state into four states.
In a letter, the Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the state BSP government to clarify issues like the proposed capitals of the new states, boundaries and how to share the debt burden. Another important poser is how the state government wants to divide the all-India service officers presently part of the UP cadre.
The MHA also wants the BSP government’s plan to divide the pension burden it bears and the revenue sharing arrangements. It has also sought clarifications on how the present administrative units of UP would be divided into the new states and what is its workable solution.
Interestingly, none of these questions were raised in the case of Andhra Pradesh. When an all-party was said to have resolved for division of AP during Rosaiah regime, the Centre did not seek answers to these same questions.
The Centre did not ask for clarifications on the number of units AP would be divided into, or the proposed capitals of the new states or ‘the workable solutions’ for revenue sharing or division of all-India service officers.
Is it because Telangana issue is not on same par as UP division?
