The state government is furious at ACB Director General Bhoobathi Babu’s refusal to give posting to Ravi Varma as Joint Director. The ACB DG sent a letter to General Administration Department, stating that he would not like to give posting to the officer.
Ravi Varma who was SP of West Godavari was transferred and posted as Joint Director, ACB. Varma got relieved as SP, but the DG refused to take him on board. Bhoobathi Babu apparently was not happy with the track record of Ravi Varma, who had worked with ACB earlier. Besides, Varma is also said to have close contacts with ruling party leaders from north coastal Andhra.
It is these issues that seem to have weighed with the ACB DG in rejecting the government’s decision.
The GAD, however, is upset that the ACB DG was going against the ‘norms’. The DG cannot assess an IPS officer’s track record, it is the privilege of the government, the GAD officials say.
Bhoobathi Babu’s decision not to hand over the syndicates case to the newly appointed Shivdhar Reddy in place of transferred Additional DG Srinivasa Reddy has also not gone well with the powers that be.
It is to be seen how the government would react to the ACB DG’s action.
