Jupally Krishna Rao of TRS won the seat by a modest margin of 12,669 votes. His nearest rival Jagedeeshwar of Congress secured 37,612 votes, while Vishnuvardhan Reddy of TDP got 29,732 votes, while Jupally was polled 51,631 votes.

Jupally Krishna Rao, who was a Minister in the ruling Congress earlier, resigned and joined TRS. With Congress Party taking the election as prestigious, the election turned out to be fight to finish.
