If there is one person playing with fire in Andhra Pradesh, it is CBI Joint Director V V Lakshminarayana. The affable officer, dealing with the most sensational cases the state had ever witnessed, will now get Y Category security from the state government, besides a bullet proof car, in view of the threat perception to his life.

The Maharashtra cadre officer, who has been serving in the state since June 2006, is heading investigation in three most important cases that have captured the national attention – the Jagan Mohan Reddy assets case, the Emaar case and the Gali Janardhana Reddy case. Besides, he was recently entrusted with the riot cases in Gujarat too.

Considering the nature of his job and especially in view of the investigations and arrests being made in Jagan’s case, which also have a political bearing, the Centre reportedly directed the state government to throw a security ring around Lakshminarayana.

Son of a retired government engineer and an alumni of Regional Engineering College in Warangal, Lakshminarayana is regarded as a low-key officer, not known to keep any security around him. Though he automatically gets minimum security as JD of CBI, Lakshminarayana is known to go to Brahmananda Reddy Park in Jubilee Hills for early morning walk alone and without any gun men.

However, in the changed circumstances, especially in view of the impending arrest of Jagan Mohan Reddy, the CBI Joint Director will now travel in a bullet proof car with two security guards always standing by him.
