Minister D L Ravindra Reddy has sent his resignation letter to Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi. D L announced he had sent his resignation as Minister, owning moral responsibility for the debacle of the party in the just concluded by-elections.
The ruling Congress Party was severely drubbed in all the seven seats it contested. Two of these seats were won by the party in 2009 general assembly elections.
DL’s move in sending the resignation letter directly to Sonia Gandhi and not to the Chief Minister is aimed at humiliating Kiran Kumar Reddy, with whom he has not been seeing eye to eye from day one.
Even as results were pouring in on Wednesday, D L, known for his antagonism to Chief Minster Kiran Kumar Reddy, made very critical comments about the government and the party leadership in the Assembly lobbies. He called upon the entire cabinet as well the PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana to resign in view of the pathetic results.
DL’s decision to send his resignation letter is being seen as an attempt to bring pressure on the high command to take the CM to task. D L has been especially sulking since he was stripped of his medical education portfolio in the recent reshuffle.
The maverick leader from Kadapa saw an opportunity in the latest drubbing in the bypolls to politically embarrass the Chief Minister.
