Braving scorching sun and resisting Indo-Pak match, voters turned out in large numbers in Andhra Pradesh by-polls, which have passed off peacefully in seven constituencies.
Kovur, where YSR Congress Party is testing the political waters, registered the highest percentage of polling, indicating heightened interest among voters in this election.
Interestingly, Station Ghanpur, where TRS and TDP are in a fierce contest, saw heavy turnout in Telangana with 75 per cent.
Mahabubnagar, where TRS was locked with the BJP, also witnessed higher voting of 70 percent. Nagarkurnool, where Nagam Janardhan Reddy is contesting against TDP and Congress, also generated much interest (65 percent) among voters.
However, the sentiment for Telangana which drove voters in large number in earlier polls in the region did not seem to have the same effect on voters this time in the other seats.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal gave his predictions of by-polls. Speaking to the media in Delhi, Rajagopal said that overall Congress would increase voting percentage.
Congress and TDP would be in second position in two seats each. On the whole, TRS and YSR Congress Party would see an erosion in their vote bank in these polls, he said.
Congress would have won at least one seat, but for the change of candidate. He was referring to Mahabubnagar, where the wife of the deceased MLA Rajeshwar Reddy was denied ticket at the last minute.
He also said that the TDP was giving tough fight to TRS in Kamareddy.
Counting will be taken on March 21.
