Between January and now, three attempts were made by the CBI authorities to arrest Jagan Mohan Reddy, but they had to be aborted following unexpected circumstances.
According to sources, CBI was ready to take Jagan, the Accused Number One in illegal assets case, into custody in January last, but a cautious YSR Congress chief chose not to turn up at the expected venue. Later, the agency sleuths planned to pounce on him at Shamshabad Airp0rt before he took the flight, but again Jagan gave a slip.
CBI officials reportedly believe that Jagan’s moles within the agency were tipping him off on plans of his arrest, which enabled him to avoid the same.
The last attempt was made a couple of days ago, when CBI planned to arrest Jagan in Guntur during his Odarpu Yatra. But the move was called off at the last minute in view of the tight and elaborate security rings thrown by Jagan’s followers who were feared to create a law and order situation in case of arrest.
The CBI officials believe that the prolonged Yatra has been a ploy by Jagan to escape the clutches of CBI. But following the filing of the charge sheet in the court, Jagan’s arrest cannot be delayed for too long, according to the officials involved in the case.
