TRS left no stone unturned in trying to give an impression that it was opposed to Jagan’s visit to Armoor in Nizamabad, but convinced nobody of its real intention. While TRS made no effort to organize any protests on the ground level, the party’s mouthpiece Namaste Telangana lashed out at Jagan and said he was stopped everywhere by pro-Telangana activists.
That the protests were limited to statements in Namaste Telangana, and that the party lacked all conviction in its stated opposition is evident to one and all now. An interesting angle to the development is that it is TRS which appears more keen in making friendly overtures to Jagan than vice versa!
In any case, after falling out with Congress and TDP, TRS will have no choice left for an alliance in future except for Jagan’s YSR Congress Party.
Initially, it appeared that TRS was not humoured when Jagan chose not to contest the next by-polls in Telangana. However, sources now confirm that while TRS was clear from day one about being soft on Jagan, the party did not want to give a handle to TDP and Congress over this issue. Hence, both TRS and YSR Congress are not expected to celebrate their friendship in the immediate future.
Wait for a long courtship between the two, before a formal engagement becomes a reality, say sources.
Whatever might be the understanding between TRS and Jagan in this regard, this dilution in disruptive politics is being seen by analysts as a welcome move in the right direction. It is likely that Jagan will act as a counterfoil to TRS, as the latter will have to be restrained in practicing its sub-regional politics to their extreme. Failing which Jagan will face music in his Seemandhra constituency, observers say.
The development will also augur well for the emergence of clear political formations in the state in the coming days. TRS-Jagan, Congress and TDP will fight it out in a three-cornered contest in the political arena from now on.
