Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Armoor in Nizamabad for is his ‘rythu deeksha’ has been without any incident. The YSR Congress Party chief, who started in Hyderabad around 8 am took almost 7 hours to reach Armoor, interacting with people on the way. People came out in good numbers to see him all a cross the roadway.
Not unexpectedly, there has been negligible or no resistance to Jagan’s visit from the Telagnana groups, especially the TRS and the political JAC. Despite their symbolic statements that Jagan would not be allowed without making his stand clear on Telangana, neither TRS nor JAC made any efforts or organized any protests to the YSR Congress leader.
This is in sharp contrast to the stiff opposition mounted against Chandrababu Naidu during his recent visit to Warangal. TRS leaders admit in private that the statements against Jagan were only for record, and not really intended to disrupt his meeting. Though police made security arrangements, Jagan did need them.
TDP Telangana Forum leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao said as much when he accused TRS and Jagan of collusion and ‘match-fixing’.
Meanwhile, despite its not very strong presence in these parts of Telangana, YSR Congress has been able to rally an impressive number of people for the deeksha. However, Congress and TDP leaders claim that it was just curiosity to see YSR’s son that brought people to the venue and they maintain this interest would wane in no time.
Jagan is to do his ‘deeksha’ for three days, hence it is to be seen whether he can sustain the interest. Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu organized a dharna in front of Vidyut Soudha on power issues, which, his detractors point out, was only intended to divert attention from Jagan’s T visit!
