KVP Ramachandra Rao, who has been in hibernation for a long time now, was spotted with Vayalar Ravi and was closeted with him on Tuesday for quite some time.
Some Congress leaders at Gandhi Bhavan were seen discussing as to what could have transpired between them.
Once the center point of state Congress politics, KVP lost his relevance after the death of his close friend YSR. He was the most sought after leader in the state after YSR those days, but the developments leading to Jagan’s departure from the party put sudden brakes on his ascending career.
While neither Kiran nor Jagan took him into confidence, what further deteriorated his position was KVP’s less than strong relations with central Congress leadership. Since YSR was the front man as far as contacts in Delhi were concerned, KVP never cultivated people who matter at 10, Janpath.
As a result, after YSR’s death, the Central leadership did not give him any role in the new set-up. KVP also faced the catch 22 situation, as he could neither criticize Jagan, nor support him.
But KVP still enjoys rapport with a large section of leaders and MLAs in state Congress. It is probably with this in mind that Vayalar Ravi held confabulations with him. Sources close to KVP say that he wants to come out of his shell and play a more active role in the party. But it is to be seen whether he will be able to regain at least some of his lost position in the party and the government.
