Maoists have been conducting recce (reconnaissance) on the movements of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, intelligence sources revealed. The recent Maoist attempt at monitoring CM’s activity was at AP Bhavan during his visit to Delhi.
Delhi cops could get info about this recce and alerted the Andhra Pradesh police. There have been several such instances of recce against the Chief Minister, according the police.
Responding to a question on this at today’s media conference, the CM did not give a direct answer. He merely said that he did not have any enemies, and that he wishes everybody to be happy.
After the recent encounter in Chattisgarh in which several naxalites were killed, the security ring around Chandrababu Naidu has been increased many fold. The CM is already under Z Category, the highest category security.
Reacting to the reports, Andhra Pradesh DGP Sambasiva Rao said that the AP police did not receive any info about Maoist recce on the CM. However, the police are reportedly taking a relook at the security in AP Bhavan. The cops say that the Bhavan premises in Delhi are porous as the canteen here is popular with much traffic.
The last serious attempt against Chandrababu Naidu by Maoists was in 2004, when the convoy he was travelling was ambushed with explosives. Naidu escaped providentially with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the tightening of the security means that Chandrababu cannot move freely and mingle with party men and people. The beefed up security ring around him is already making his party cadre restive, as the CM has become inaccessible.
