Who will be next Governor of Andhra Pradesh? It is likely to be G K Pillai, the former Home Secretary at the centre. The present Governor Narasimhan’s tenure ended two months back, but he is continuing till the centre appoints the new incumbent.

Gopal Krishna Pillai is former IAS officer from Kerala, who was at the helm in the Union Home Ministry during 2009 Telangana movement at its peak. A couple of his statements also became controversial during this period.

The centre is considering replacing one bureaucrat with another, obviously in view of the sensitive political situation which has a bearing on the law and order situation of the state.

At a time when Telangana issue is threatening to snowball into another bout of political skulduggery, a Governor who is well-versed with the subject and its political implications is obviously the choice.

Telangana champions might welcome the appointment as they see in Pillia a friend who said Telangana state would be formed with Hyderabad as capital.
