Andhra Pradesh Government is coming up with a new health insurance scheme that would provide universal coverage to all citizens of the state.
The Cabinet which met at Velagapudi Secretariat today approved the new scheme. Arogya Raksha will be formally launched from January 1, 2017. Under the scheme, every person will get a benefit of Rs 2 lakh per annum, for which the beneficiary will have to pay Rs 100 every month.
That would mean Rs 2 lakh insurance for Rs 1200 a year. NTR Vaidya Seva Trust will collect this amount and implement the scheme. Every year, the registration process will be conducted between January 1 to February 28.
Arogya Raksha was earlier being implemented in the state (since K Rosaiah’s time) for vulnerable sections like children in a different format.
Meanwhile, Sakshi is already crying wolf at the decision. The paper alleged that the new scheme means that the Rajasekhara Reddy-branded Arogyasri is on its way out.
“Chandrababu Naidu is taking money from the poor, and providing health insurance,” the report accused.
