The latest figures show that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government has miserably failed in achieving expected progress in the construction of the multi-pupose Polavaram Irrigation Project. The YCP government in general and Ambati Rambabu, the Irrigation Minister, in particular keep on lying through their teeth on the subject.

According to the latest reports of the Irrigation Department, the YCP government completed less than half of what the TDP government achieved during its tenure on Polavaram, being built on River Godavari. As of 2023 January, the Jagan government completed only 17 percent of the total works on the project which include the main dam, the left and the right canals. Compare this with TDP regime, which successfully finished 41.93 percent of the works. That is more than an average of 8 percent every year.

The YSRCP government could complete less than 4.3 percent on average every year. Before the TDP government took up, Polavaram works were completed to an extent of 20 percent.

Land acquistion and rehabiliation are a major component of the project. Till 2014, only 3.54 percent of this component was completed. While TDP completed 12.65 percent, the YSRCP government could take up only 5.97 percent till 2023 January.

From these statistics, it is evident that the Jagan government has not done even half of what was achieved during the TDP government on Polavaram. But these facts do not deter their leaders from peddling lies.
