As expected, Sakshi management has approached the Namaplly CBI court to ‘defreeze’ the bank accounts frozen by CBI on Tuesday. The accounts belonged to Sakshi paper, Sakshi channel and Janani Infra. The petition was filed by Vijaya Sai Reddy, vice-chairman of Jagathi Publications, which publishes Sakshi paper.

In its petition, Sakshi contended that the action of the CBI was untenable and exercise of CRPC section 102 for the purpose was not legal. As many as 20,000 persons depended on the company directly or indirectly and the CBI’s unilateral action will affect them, the petition said.

Giving details of its operations, Sakshi said that its account with Oriental Bank of Commerce had Rs 103 cr deposits, while it required Rs 8 cr for monthly salaries, Rs 35 cr for operational expenditure, Rs 25 cr for newsprint and another Rs 7 cr for administrative overheads.

The court asked the CBI to file its counter and posted the case for Thursday.
