A US magazine report listing UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi as the fourth richest Indian person has caused ripples in Indian media.
According to the article titled ‘Meet The 23 Richest Politicians In The World’, Sonia Gandhi owns assets $2-19 billion, that is Rs 10,000 crores to Rs 45,000 crore.
“Gandhi is originally from Italy. She is the widow of Rajiv Gandhi, the assassinated former prime minister. As leader of the Congress party, Gandhi played a key role in reviving the party’s fortune and power,” says the article, which sourced its information from World’s Luxury Guide.
The article gives a list of the richest politicians in the world, whose names are derived from local officials and US Congress members to royal heirs and foreign ministers. King of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz with an asset of $21 billion finds himself numero uno in the list. The last in the list is US Senator John Kerry, with a networth of $181-$281 million.
Savitri Jindal, another Indian figures at number 7, with networth of $13.2 billion. She is the Member of Legislative Assembly in Haryana. Residing in India, she is one of the richest Indian women and serves as a non-executive board member of OP Jindal, the steel and power conglomerate and family heirloom run by her sons.
Others in the list include Michael Bloomberg, Asif Ali Zardari, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Wu Yajun, Silvio Berlusconi, Vladimir Putin, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Darrell Issa, Sebastian Pinera etc.
