Bhanu Kiran, the alleged killer of Maddelacheruvu Suri, has been nabbed by the police at last. The mafia don’s close associate was accused of shooting his own boss at point blank range while they were travelling in a car on January 3, 2011.
The accused has been absconding since then, posing a challenge to the police who spared no effort to capture him. CID chief Ramana Murthy announced that Bhanu was at last in their custody.
Bhanu, who was produced before the media on Saturday evening, was nabbed at 10 am on the same day at Jaheerabad in Medak district, while going to Hyderabad from Mumbai, according to cops.
Police said that Bhanu was hiding all over India in states like Madhya Pradesh, where he rented a house and even obtained a ration card. He used to speak to his friends from Mumbai, Delhi and Gurgaon through public phone booths.
Bhanu would be produced before the court on Sunday. Police said they would seek his custody for interrogation.
Special teams were formed to nab Bhanu Kiran by the cops, but the alleged killer gave a slip for more than a year. His whereabouts were reportedly tracked by the police finally through letters written by him to his friends.
Bhanu was alleged to have had several dubious financial dealings with Suri, who himself was extorting money from various sources. The exact reason for Bhanu to eliminate Suri is still not known, but some reports said that Suri suspected some foul play with his monies by Bhanu when he stayed put in jail for an extended period.
