With a view to capitalizing the interest in Telangana agitation, a host of films have been made on the subject recently. Director Shankar came out with his Jai Bolo Telangana and subsequently many films were announced with the support of political parties and joint action committees.
R Narayana Murthy came out with Poru Telangana but the film did not receive any attention. He released it a second time last week.
Rasamaye Balkishan produced another quickie on the subject Yamalokamlo Jai Telangana. The film is yet to see the light of the day. Another new producer Rafi made Inkennaallu casting himself as hero. The film had Prof Kodandaram and several other JAC and TRS leaders playing roles in the film.
A couple of days of after release, Rafi now accuses distributors of killing his film’s chances by reducing the number of shows. He told reporters that he was stopping the screening of the film as a protest. He alleged that big distributors like Asian Films, Suresh Films and Venkateswara Films were deliberately causing losses to his film.
What many of these new makers don’t seem to understand is that if the film is patronized by audiences in a big way, the distributors will be least interested in dabbling with that.
The movies that came with Telangana theme also tell us that films after all are a medium of entertainment and people don’t watch them because of sentiments. Rajanna is a big banner film made with all commercial ingredients, but still Nagarjuna continues to hard-sell the movie to bring audiences to theaters.
Telangana film makers like Dil Raju or Surender Reddy tasted success because of their professional approach, not because of their umbilical cords to any region or group.
