The immediate impact of the Budget 2012-13 has been felt by the common man in the automobile sector and durable goods, besides various services including holidaying to eating out.
With an increase in the excise duty on all products in the Budget for 2012-13, car makers like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and Honda Siel Cars India will hike prices of their vehicles by up to Rs70,000.
Almost all the manufactured items used in every day life will become costlier, while luxury cars, gold, eating out at restaurants or hotel accommodation will become even more expensive after a steep hike in tax rates proposed in Budget.
Cigarettes and bidis will also become dearer as Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has proposed to tax these items more in the Budget .
With service tax being hiked to 12 per cent from the existing 10 per cent except in a few items, common man will have to pay more while travelling by air or hiring every service imaginable.
Gold and platinum will also become more expensive as the customs duty in imported standard bar has been hiked to 4 per cent from 2 per cent. Prices of gold and platinum jewellery are set to go up by atleast 2%.
Prices of consumer electronics like LCD TV, LED TV, air-conditioners, refrigerators, washing machine and microwave ovens are going to go up by 2-4%, which is expected to a have dampening effect on the white goods companies.
The Budget increased excise duty by 2% from 10% to 12%. Accordingly, a 1.5 tonne 3-star split AC will now cost Rs 1,000 more, while a 240-litre 5-star frost-free refrigerator will cost Rs 800 more. A 6kg fully-automatic front-loading washing machine will cost Rs 1,200 more.
TV makers indicated LCD and LED TV prices will also go up by 2-3%. As a result, a 32-inch LCD TV price will go up by Rs 800 while that of a 32-inch LED TV by around Rs 1,200.
