Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy seems to have compromised on the appointment of Right to Information Commissioners for the time being. Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi sent a letter to the Election Commission seeking permission to appoint four Commissioners whose names were approved by Governor ESL Narasimhan.
It may be recalled that the Governor had approved the names of former IPS officers M Ratan, Prabhakar Reddy, former IFS officer Madhukar and Andhra Prabha editor Vijaya Babu. However, he had asked the government to reconsider the names of Varre Venkateswarlu, Lam Tantiya Kumari, Imtiaz Ahmed and M Vijaya Nirmala.
Though the CM earlier was particular to ensure that all the names proposed by the government should be approved, he, however, recanted after Narasimhan was appointed for the second term as Governor.
The state Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal, in turn, had sent the letter to the Election Commission for approval. Since the names were approved long back, it is likely that the EC gives its green signal.
