A lot of developments are happening in Andhra politics, but the only party that seems to be keeping aloof is the state BJP.

The state leadership of BJP still regards TDP and Chandrababu Naidu as its political enemies, while rarely opening their mouths against the unpopular decisions of the Jagan government. The latest in this saga is the tweet by Andhra BJP.

The Jagan government is using old British-era laws to crush opposition activities in the state, and all the opposition parties are up in arms against the draconian move of the YCP regime. But what attracts Andhra Pradesh BJP’s attention is not the Jagan government’s unilateral and anti-democratic move against rallies and meetings of opposition parties. Instead, the local BJP’s official handle takes dig at another opposition party, the TDP and especially Chandrababu Naidu.

The official Twitter handle of AP BJP pokes fun of Chandrababu Naidu for seeking CBI inquiry into various complaints, while he withdrew permission to the central agency in the past.

Since Somu Veerraju became the Andhra Pradesh State BJP president, the party has been acting as the unofficial ally of the ruling YCP. The other members of his clique including Sunil Deodhar, GVL Narasimha Rao and Vishnuvardhana Reddy never miss an opportunity to attack the opposition TDP, while being very soft on the ruling party.

There are allegations of a nexus between the state BJP leadership and the YCP leadership. Whether they are true or not, it is evident the reason for the AP BJP not making any inroads in the state is precisely because the leadership never crossed swords with the ruling party.

The fact that the top leadership of the BJP, including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, are treating Jagan as their own (even though he is not part of NDA) seem to have emboldened the state leadership to be pally with the YCP leader.

So much so that Janasena, which has an alliance with the BJP, is meeting Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP more often to devise ways to take on YCP government than with his own alliance partner.

That clearly indicates where the Andhra Pradesh BJP stands.
