Chandrababu Naidu’s efforts to cultivate BJP have not made much progress. But this seems to be costing his friendship with the Left too. The TDP leaders are aghast that Babu was not being invited to the convention against communalism being organised by the Left in Delhi this month.
This convention is being seen as a precursor to the Left’s efforts to formation of a non-Congress and non-BJP political front. However, the TDP have been left red-faced as Babu’s name is not on the invitees list. Apparently, Babu’s attempts at making friendship with Narendra Modi have not gone well with the Left.
While the CPI still continues to have good terms with TDP in the state, the CPM has been keeping a safe distance from the TDP. There is still talk that CPM may be considering an alliance with Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR CP. It is interesting to note that Dadi Veerabhadra Rao said that YSR CP changed its stand towards Congress and would never support the party at the Centre.
So while BJP is yet to warm up to Chandrababu, he is fast losing his friendship with the Left too. For now, Babu’s dreams of playing a key role in the proposed Third Front may not bear fruit.
