Chiranjeevi may not have worked wonders in successive by-elections in Andhra Pradesh. But he seems to be in great demand in Karnataka for the on-going election campaign.
Chiranjeevi’s services were sought by the Congress high command for the ensuing Karnataka Assembly elections. Congress Party has high hopes on Karnataka where it has bright chances of forming the next government. In a bid to woo the large population of Telugu origin, Congress has deployed Chiranjeevi on the campaign trail.
The first leg of Chiru campaign in Kolar, Chikballapur, Bangarpet areas was a tremendous success in terms of attendance. The crowds who gathered to catch a glimpse of the star-turned-minister was so large that the police had to resort to lathi-charge at Gouribidanur.
Enthused by the response, Congress has asked Chiru to take up the second leg of campaign in and around Bellary region, where people of Telugu origin live in large numbers.
It is expected that he will draw large crowds even here.
But what observers wonder at is whether Chiru would be able to get as many votes for Congress as he draws the crowds. The experience in Andhra was not too inspiring. But if Congress were to come to power in Karnataka, Chiranjeevi would certainly take some credit for the achievement.
