Chiranjeevi, who filed nomination for Rajya Sabha on Monday, has made it clear that none of his family members would be in the contest for Tirupati Assembly seat. Chiru will have to vacate his seat once he is elected to the Rajya Sabha.
There has been speculation for some time now that Chiru will insist on giving the ticket to one of his family members, notably his brother Nagababu. Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, Chiru, however, clarified that his family was not interested to be in the fray.
With Chiru making his stand clear on Tirupati, intense compeition is expected from aspirants for the seat. Minister Galla Aruna Kumari’s son Galla Jayadev, MD of of Amara Raja Batteries Ltd., has already expressed his keenness to be Congress candidate. “If Chiranjeevi were to be elevated to RS, I would be interested in contesting for Tirupati by-poll,” he declared his intention in Guntur some time back.
He said it was in fact politics which drew him to India from the United States . “Our family discussed about this and we also conveyed our intentions to the Congress high command,” said Jayadev, who is chairman of the A. P. Chapter of the CII.
Galla Aruna Kumari too expressed her desire to field her son from Tirupati from Congress.
