Senior Congress leader G Venkataswamy’s family has been in the news once again for land grabbing. Venkata Swamy’ son G Vinod, a former minister in YSR government, was prevented from encroaching the most valuable land in the heart of Banjara Hills on Saturday.
The extent of land is more than five and a half acres and is located on Banjara Hills Road No 3 on the main road abutting Sagar Society. The value of the land at current prices conservatively would be anywhere between Rs 200 to Rs 400 crore.
The local revenue officials got alerted when Vinod and men started clearing the land with earth movers and immediately rushed to the place, besides calling police forces. Vinod tried to intimidate the officers, but when they showed court orders and refused to bow down, Vinod made a retreat claiming that his men were only cleaning up the place.
Of late, Venkataswamy has been a bitter critic of Congress leaders in Delhi. His elder son and industrialist G Vivekananda has transformed himself into a Telangana champion and has been criticizing CM Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The family was in involved in a land case some time back with actor Srikanth, who alleged that the politician’s family was trying to grab his land. Interestingly, the local villagers as well as TRS activists came in support of Srikanth, who they said was the genuine owner of the land.
The current political confrontation with Kiran could be seen in the backdrop of Venkataswamy family’s interests in land issues. Interestingly, the Venkataswamy family has been alleging that Seemandhra industrialists have been plundering Telangana resources, including valuable lands in Hyderabad.
