Close on the heels of stupendous success of The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan’s Kahaani, which released on Friday across the country, raised lot of expectations. And if the reviews across the spectrum are any indication, Ms Balan has a winner on her hand for the second time in a row. Here are excerpts from a few reviews.
Rediff: Vidya Balan rocks in Kahaani
Suspense thrillers are just the same. But very few films belonging to this genre are able to fit the right piece in the right place. And that’s what makes Sujoy Ghosh’s accomplishment in Kahaani worth all the applause that comes its way.
Sly, gripping and taut, Kahaani is much too enjoyable to find flaws. This is, without doubt, Sujoy Ghosh’s best work so far. Go watch it. Rediff gave 4 stars to the movie.
Times of India: A Must Watch
ahaani rightly lives up to its name and reinstates the fact that the core criterion for a decent film is a strong story. And if that story is in competent hands, you don’t need anything else. No big stars, songs, budget or even a customary male lead. For a (pleasant) change, the script is indeed the hero here!
Kahaani, undoubtedly, is Sujoy Ghosh’s most accomplished works till date as he emerges as a skilful storyteller with the film. If story is what you seek from a film, Kahaani is a must-watch. Aami Shotti Bolchi!
Zee News: A rare film and a game-changer
This is a great time to be a movie buff. Within a week of ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, which should incontestably win Irrfan Khan the National Award for best actor, comes ‘Kahaani’ in which Vidya Balan is so flawlessly resplendent that one suspects the next year`s National Award too is already reserved for her. Dirty deeds forgotten.
Yahoo: An Okay Film
The suspense in Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘Kahaani’ may not be nail-chewing-worthy but he succeeds in getting Kolkata to perform at its peak and look like it’s on a wire between vintage and decrepit. The overall attitude of the city and the city’s voice is consistent in the story and the characters too.
India Today: Fast, Fun, Fearless Thriller
Welcome back Sujoy Ghosh. We thought you were a one film wonder and had consigned you to oblivion after the disaster of Aladin. But Kahaani,a fast, fun, fearless thriller has made up for it.
Sit back, enjoy the ride, bumpy though it may be, in shambling taxis, rickety trams, the smooth and shining metro. And yes, feel a little sad too as Durga maa is immersed to the tune of Amitabh Bachchan singing Ekla Chalo Re, makes me want to book my ticket to the city now.
